Special Considerations or Operations

User Permit required: Call David Creamer five days prior to departure, Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Central Time, 850-957-5717If unable to reach him, call Grace Quina at 850-957-5749.

Caution- Be aware of the following items

Blackwater Airfield requires prior permission, see above. Intense helicopter and fixed wing Navy training area. Study New Orleans Sectional, use VFR corridors where necessary, contact Eglin or Pensacola Approach when entering this area of the Panhandle. Beware of Florida afternoon T-storms, frontal winds during winter, occasional morning or evening fog.

The airstrip is marked turf. Useable area is the middle 2,500’, see diagram. Edges and ends are marked. Runway hazards include depressions, ant hills, gopher holes, deer and turkey on the runway. Wind sock south of marked airstrip, but difficult to see from the air. CEW’s ASOS (119.275 MHz) for local conditions. Field drainage is good. Bring tie downs.

Camping on south end of field. Restrooms and showers adjacent to field in Krul Recreation Area campgrounds One is open all year, two are seasonal. Dumpster on road between campgrounds. 6.5 acre spring-fed swimming lake near airfield. Forest Service Fees apply. Payment slips at “Iron Rangers”, by restrooms. Fuel available at Brewton 12J, Prince 2R4 and Sikes CEW.
